N.E.R.D. Seeing Sounds Review and Recap Game 1 of NBA Finals
Whats up its ya boy D.O.N. back at it to bring y'all the review of the new N.E.R.D album "Seeing Sounds" and to let you know what I thought of game 1 of the NBA Finals.

"Seeing Sounds" is the third album to come out by N.E.R.D. which is fronted by Pharrell and also includes Chad Hugo and Shay Haley. With "Seeing Sounds" they bring their Neptunes creativity and their melodic lyrics. The album starts with Pharrell talking about when he was young and remember the first time he closed his eyes and saw sounds, as this cuts out it goes right into the first song "Time For Some Action" which tells the age old story of boy chases girl. The chorus stays simple and towards the end of the song the beat changes and Pharrell goes into a nice little breakdown. Next is the first single of "Seeing Sounds" which is the drug induced woman party anthem "Everyone Nose", which produces a crazy sound and a nice flow. One of the catchiest songs on the album is the hard hitting "Anti Matter", this track has the hardest beat catchiest hook and a unique flow. What N.E.R.D can do just as well as anyone is stay on topic throughout a song and album. Pharrell is very underrated in his story telling ability and his skills show again on the slowed down stalkerish track "Yeah You". When you are anticipating a let down there just is not one to be found with tracks that will stay in you head like "Spaz" and "Love Bomb". What N.E.R.D. does really well throughout "Seeing Sounds" is have a proper mix of love songs and party tracks. Many of the slow tracks are so smooth due to the flow and beat you just drift into it. One of the few bad spots on the album is "You Know What" where the story is interesting but it was just lyrically was lacking.
"Seeing Sounds" provides listeners a sound that is very unique and weaves you through tale after tale of sex, drugs, and love. Not many bad things to say here and was very pleasantly surprised and it seems like they are back to their "In Search Of..." days instead of their last album "Fly or Die" which left a lot to be desired. I can listen to this CD front to back without skipping and that is the sign of a good album. The production as always is top notch but I wouldn't expect any less from Pharrell and Chad (The Neptunes). I give "Seeing Sounds" a 8.5 out of 10.

Now its time for my thoughts on Game 1 of the NBA Finals which the Celtics beat the Lakers 98-88. Paul Pierce had 22 points even with a strained knee that he received in the 3rd quarter. This game to me came down to one thing, Kobe not being able to hit a damn shot. Kobe missed some really easy buckets that if they went down could have changed the outcome to the game. Like I said yesterday about my X-Factors for each team Rondo outplayed Odom. Rondo had 15 points to Odoms 14 and Rondo also had 7 assists and 5 rebounds. This next game is in my opinion crucial the lakers need to win game 2 in order to stay in this. They have to know that they can win in Boston because i think they are gonna have to win 2 in Boston to win the series because Boston will win one in LA. We will see what happens on Sunday night when they go at it again.

Lil Wayne Carter III Review, NBA Finals and my QUICKHITS...
Whats happening people, welcome to the first ever edition of D.O.N.'s Deductions the only spot to get you hip hop and sports fix. Good to be here and can't wait for the feedback. In this inaugural post I will be reviewing Lil Wayne's The Carter III CD and also talk about the NBA Finals which start tonight in Boston between the Celtics and Lakers.

One June 10th the most anticipated album of the summer will drop with The Carter III by Lil Wayne. This will be Wayne's 6th solo album off the Cash Money label and by far the most awaited. The Carter III is 16 tracks of Wayne's unusual swag and flow mixed in with many guest spots and vocoders.
The album starts off pretty hot with the song "3peat" which is a great intro song and leads right into "Mr.Carter" featuring Jay-Z and produced by Just Blaze. You can never go wrong when Jay-Z hops onto a track and this song doesn't disappoint just based on Hov's verse and it is clear he takes over the track. Wayne's verses are all over the place like usual and it just seems he puts a bunch of punchlines together and there is never a real story behind it. Wayne's hardest hitting track is by far "A Milli" its a song where where the beat bumps so hard you forget about the lyrics, its the type of song you bang on the block on a Saturday afternoon and a good radio follow-up to "Lollipop". Then the record hits a bit of a snag for the next 2 songs with "Got Money" featuring T-Pain and "Comfortable" feat Babyface. The vocoder is in full affect with "Got Money" and is really nothing special and disappoints lyrically. "Comfortable" is a song that is not new to Wayne fans as it has been out for some time now. Babyface adds a very catchy hook with this song for the ladies but it really just does not work, not a horrible song just not very good. Then we start thinking the record is gonna pick up with the very original Dr. Carter. In my opinion it is one of the best songs on the CD simply due to the originality that only Wayne can bring. One of the only songs where Wayne stays focused it seems and he stays on the story of the song and it is very well produced.
This is now where the wheels fall off with the second half of the CD with songs that just don't make the grade like "Mrs. Officer" featuring Bobby Valentino, "Let The Beat Build", and "Shoot Me Down". One of the only bright spots on the second half of the album is the New Orleans tribute "Tie My Hands" featuring Robin Thicke. This song really displays a good side of Wayne which he needs to show more. The beat stays simple as he talks about the disaster of Hurricane Katrina and overcoming. "Tie My Hands" is very moving and the ONLY track that paints a picture and leaves you wanting more. "Playing With Fire" is one of the more annoying songs with the impenetrable whining which sounds like he is crying while spitting.
All in all this CD leaves a lot to be desired. With the wait being so long I expected much more. It was set-up more like a mixtape then an album and that has always been one of the biggest knocks on Wayne, he seems to put out incredible mixtapes (like the Drought Series) but then falls short on his albums. Seems he has a hard time stringing together tracks and create a story. Almost seems like its a crap shoot with Wayne where you never know what you are going to get when you press play. It is too bad that the low points outweigh the high points like "Mr. Carter" and "Tie My Hands". I give this CD a 7 out of 10.

Now its time for The NBA Finals between the Boston Celtics and the Los Angeles Lakers. This is a throwback to the old days of Bird and Magic. The hype for this series is just what the NBA needs to have insane ratings. This should be one of the more interesting finals we have seen in some time. The Celtics come into the series with the best regular season record and the Defensive MVP Kevin Garnett while the Lakers come into the series with the NBA MVP and the best player the league has seen in the past 10 years in Kobe Bryant. For the Lakers the X-Factor has to be Lamar Odom, we all know Kobe is going to get his 30 per game and Gasol is gonna get his 15-20. The Lakers big 3 has to beat the Celtics big 3 in order to win this series. The Celtics X-Factor is Rajon Rondo. The guy is like Two-Face from the Batman series. He either shows up and plays huge or he is on the bench while guys like Eddie House and Sam Cassell fight to see who looks worse. Rondo has to control the tempo and take advantage of the match-up he has with Derek Fischer, Rondo will beat him off the dribble every single time but we will see if Rondo will use that or not. I think that this series will go the full 7 with LA taking game 7 in Boston. This is one of those instant classics and you will be stupid to miss a second of it. Ill be back after every game to recap.
Now its time for D.O.N.'s Quickhits which is gonna be one or two sentence opinions in the Hip Hop Game and Sports.
-I don't know how many of you watch the UFC and The Ultimate Fighter show but last nights episode was pretty good and the semi's should be an awesome fight between Amir and CB. Also Rampage has got to be one of the funniest fighters around.
-My team the Atlanta Braves drop another close one because the bullpen sucks and they also announced Smoltzies out for the season because of his bum shoulder. This might put an end to any hope of my boys winning the NL East which is sad we just need the youngins to step it up
-What is the deal with the beef with Trick Daddy and Plies honestly come on does anyone care? Its gettin outta control
-Big ups to Usher for selling 433k albums the CD is tight but i wouldn't expect anything less from the king of R&B
-That new joint "Hi Hater" by Maino is straight fire bout time for New York start standing up
-In case y'all don't know I'm from Rhode Island the 401 aka The Ocean State much respect to Jon Hope who is really puttin it down for RI check him out on Statik Selektah's last CD Spell My Name Right. Big Ups to all the RI artists out there and support your hood.
